Default Got another cutlass

I haven't been on here in forever because I haven't been in the office much lately, but anyway , as most of you know I have an 88 cutlass but the other day a friend was telling me about a 72 he heard about for sale. I went to look at it, he said it was pretty rough, and it was but the price was right so I bought it and drove it home , barely, but it's there none the less. 350 4bbl with #7 heads I can't remember if these are good or not. bucket seats floor shifter, set up for air but not there, p/s, p/b, still has the owners manual, protecto plate, warranty info, original purchase date and address of original owner in the glove box. which if you seen the condition of the car you would be even more amazed. It's fairly straight except for driver rear 1/4 is terrible and passenger will also need repair but not nearly as bad. Floor is rusted and trunk is too. It's a project. I don't think I am even going to attempt to restore it to original. Just fix it up nice and hop it up and enjoy my new hot rod.

The #7 heads are good heads, in the same league as the #5, #6 and #7A.

You said the car has power brakes - are they drum of disc? Any idea what rear gear it has, or if it's a limited slip? Sounds like it's a good start for a rod.

by the way it's a cutlass supreme with the rear fenders like the convertibles but it's hard top. the tunk looks as if the racing stripes are original, is that possible on a supreme. I cant tell for sure because the hood is not the same color(blue on white) hood is RUST some of you may be familiar with this color.lol the stripes are very age faded but look factory quality and the stripes are also on that 3-4 inch area between the window and trunk lid. It doesn't matter too much because it's going it be painted anyway but I found it odd for a supreme to have stripes. I don't know too much about the older ones.

acctually they are 7A I didn't know if the "A" mattered. All four are drum right now but I plan to go to disc when I get some money and find out how. Dont know anything about the rearend yet. It runs smooth but it sounds like every lifter in it is tapping. I know it's not the bottom of the engine making the noise it's clearly right under the valve covers.(original gold Oldsmobile covers)

I don't think those stripes were from the factory unless it was a W-30, but then again '72 was a weird year. GM had a strike going on, and the new body style wasn't released due to that, so it didn't come out until '73. The '72 Cutlass was a carry over of the '71, with minor differences in the tail light lenses and grilles.

'72 was also the first year that the 442 wasn't a body style of its own, but was an option on the Cutlass order sheet, with the W-30 being another option on top of the 442 option, so maybe with all that option confusion going on a person could actually order the stripes on any old Cutlass.
