Default What size tires for 15 X 8" rims

I need to know what size tires I should get for my 15 X 8" Olds Rallys. I tried searching, but I mainly can only find stuff for aftermarket rims. Just wondering if I should go with the size places like Tirerack.com recommends, or if I can get a bigger/wider size on them. I suck with tire sizes, so I don't know where to start. I think I am looking for stock diameter, but maybe a little wider. Also, I am not just looking for RWL tires, so if that gives me more options, that would be great.

I don't know the backspace, they are factory rims off of a Delta 88 I think.

measure from the back of the face, to the back of the rim.. I'm guessing 4.75~ like a stockish backspace. I think I'm going to run up there tomorrow, so i can look.. and try to figure out the backspace, since he probably won't be there to just tell me

If you want same size all around id go with 235/60's all around. ive personally got 215/65's up front and 295/50's in the rear. if ur lookin for cheap, try pep boys, I bought my two fronts for 69 bucks a piece and theyre even white letter.

What Delta had 15x8 wheels from the factory? Did you find the size stamping on the wheels or are you measuring these your self? If measuring yourself, are you measuring them properly?

Anyway, if they are 8" wide, 295-60 fits very well but are 28" tall. 255-60 and 245-60 fit well and are in the 26" tall range. Another consideration is what will actually fit in your wheel well.

15x7 was the biggest factory rim in that style.

If that's what you've got, the 235/60-15 is a good size for all 4 corners.

At a bare minimum double check with other sources. I am partial to BF Goodrich myself although they recently altered the layout and I still prefer the old one.

I feel they are helpful at guiding someone to stay within safe dimensions/operation levels and surely recommend with lawyers in mind if you get my drift.

As has been noted the rims must be 15 X 7 if you measure from outer lip to outer lip it may only appear to be 8 inches. 235 60 15s are sorta ideal on the rear. Although they are taller than they should be for your car.

225 60 15s will keep your speedo on point but they are slightly narrower than the 235s 9.2 inches vs 9.5

If you want to go real wide without altering height you need to go look at more of a import orientated brand.

For instance Hankook VENTUS H101 Tire - P265/50R15S has a 10.7 inch section width should look killer on the rear as long as it doesn't rub. However it is recommended to be mounted on a 7.5 inch minimum width. Cooper has these also and they also recommend 7.5 rim width.

What I do is use http://tech.oldsgmail.com/axle_RPM.php then Google the specs.

I searched around for 235 60s and there doesn't seem to be much of a selection. I am only getting 5 choices on tirerack.com. 225 60s at least give me 12 choices.

235/60 on 15 x 7 Note the small amount of clearance on the rear tires.

Yeah but I wouldn't worry about it the 5 choices for 235s will probably be around for a good while, its the preferred choice for most G-Body. Guessing the 225s must have a more current/more popular factory match up, leading to them being more prevalent.

This is probably because of back space. I had 255 60 15s on the rear of my ride with a 3.75 backspace and it wasn't as close as yours seems to be.

Dan2286 this is key and I think for G-Body 4 inches is the max backspace for additional tire width.

Yeah this is pushing you real close to the frame rails but if its not touching its all good.

I also have aluminum drums which help push the wheels a bit further away. When I had my 255s on I think there was about 3/8s of an inch of space between the frame and tire bulge.

I have 235/60's all the way around. Mine are Delta rims on a, well, Delta.

The fronts rub slightly on full tilt of the wheel... Not enough to worry about, and I think if I replaced the front springs, the area where it rubs wouldn't be a concern.

^ surprised that they rub on the front of a Delta even if the suspension is softening/sagging a bit?, considering that its full size and came with large tires to begin with.

Good to know... Guessing on my car it would probably be a nightmare, although I have seen many a Monte SS with them at all four corners.

In any case 235s are great on the rear but too big up front for my current taste anyway.

They rub on the big ass thick sway bar. It's a 9C1 Caprice one, if I remember right. Not only that, but the sway bar endlinks are modified..

I used to have BFG 235/60R15s on the factory wheels on my 442, and they DO rub on the sway bar at full lock. From what I recall, a similar situation happened to Luke.

Currently, I have 225/65 or 70s on it, and it looks like complete crap, entirely too much sidewall, and too thin, width-wise, for my tastes. Even 235s are too thin, but are the widest I can run without spacers.

Interesting, I haven't noticed that with mine. I think my alignment is off so that might make the difference, IDK.
