Default carburetor 403

I read an article in the latest hod rod magazine where someone with a 403 in his cutlass ran 8.19 in the 1/8 mile. He said he had trouble with the idle on the q-jet so he put a new holley carb on it and it ran slower then he added otherthings and it wasnt getting back to the original time. the advice was to use the q-jet and clean it out. So my question is what do you think is the best carb for a street weekend strip car? The q-jet is 800cfm. I was thinking of getting an edelbrock 750 to replace the 600 on it now.

After tinkering with a Holley and a Demon, I'm going back to a Q-Jet.

According to the resident Q-Jet expert here, I won't be sorry. Yes, he is building mine for me as soon as I ship him the core

I saw that article too in the new issue, and it's a classic issue of taking a non logical, test but not tune, throw money at it approach. I think we can safely call that guy foolish (throwin nitrous at an out of tune 403 with possible fuel problems and stock pistons? cmaw....)

but back to the original question...q-jet all the way

Q-Jet

I got my last holley rebuilt QJ on summit. They have # matching carbs (if that matters) for cars originally equiped. It was $218 IIRC.

a good question, but unless the 403 in question is a super-high-dollar, high-rpm motor making more than 500hp, a q-jet can supply it all the fuel it needs just fine, and will probably idle better and give better mileage, too.
