Post Olds supreme again

Anyway, I have considered everyones opinion on the matter of my little 307. I decided that its not worth the money to put all new engine parts and drivetrain in. I am looking to just buy a new car ( as in new to myself ). It most definately has to be an Olds though, nothing else would settle. Performance is necessary. I am looking to spend up to $5,000. Any suggestions on types and engines? Thanks

If I had to have a newer olds and could spend 5 grand on it, it'd have to be a 3.4L supreme convertible with the targa bar. I'd put some newer intrigue wheels on it to really set it off. Just my own opinion though.

If you're going to shell out the money for a 442, then forget the 72. There 442s were a styling/handling package by then. All 68-70 Cutlass Supremes had a 310hp 350 as standard equipment. I prefer the 68 Supreme (Best looking front end, IMHO).

If you buy any Olds (like a Cutlass) before and including '76 and it has a 350 or 455 then it has a non-windowed main block. Thats good. Then let the modifications begin!! The closer to '68-'70 the better. Or maybe you can find a later one that has some nice upgrades already.

Thumbs up

You can do alot with 5k I bought a 72 cut convert with a 455 not stock but it moves and I can upgrade. It is not perfect AC compressor gone, bench seats, old man biege, engine painted wrong color a few parking dings Paint is fading(no rust!)... but it is not a show car. I get alot of complements from everyday folks but my car pales in comparison to the show quality cars in our car club.
You have to be real patient. Let the word out to every olds owner that you know...Something will come up...5K for 442 might be not be enough with out having the same problems as you had before with rust. Buy the best body you can the engine is usually the cheapest to fix and eaisest to upgrade one pc at a time or build on a stand while enjoying the car. The body once you start you can not go back if you run out of money and hard to drive a car that you are working on the body.
Good Luck and Happy Hunting
