I am currently running 235/60/14 on the front, and 275/60/15 drag radials on the back. No spacers.

Is that a new tire sticker I see on the top of the tread? I can't believe you didn't smoke it off.

I found a pair of used BF Goodrich Touring T/A tires used for $50. The size is 225/60/15. I think they should be fine as long as they are in better shape than the ones that are on my car now, mine are very dry rotted.

So, I just want to make sure these tires will fit before paying money to have them mounted. I bought them since they were not used at all and only $50, but they are pretty wide and I don't know if they will fit with out rubbing on the frame.

235/60's fit, as a couple of people pointed out in this thread. I would think that 225/60's will fit.

Buy them if size concerns are the only issue. Great choice and a perfect fit.

Awesome let us know how they turn out. They are slightly wider than 442 and H/O spec so they should look real nice on your ride. Then they are just about exact diameter as factory for your model so speedo will be correct.

P.S do you know what your back space is ?

87 had 255/60/15 back no issues and some really funky front sizes (like 215/40/15) up front .... stock Malibu rims so I'd assume 15x7 with a 4" backspace.

86's springs sagged like crazy (the least amount of sag was the front passanger and it was still .75" off of stock) I ran 235/60/14s on all four corners stock early 70s SSII with the 4.25" offset and a 3/8" spacer in the back .... without them they'd rub the insides of the tires.
same wheel/tire combo is sitting on the 81 now with no spacers. zero rub.

My speedo will never be correct until I change the speedo gear in the trans I have no idea what the backspace is. I am in Pennsylvania right now, so I will try and check tomorrow.

I think I correctly measured the backspace and it came out to around 4 3/8" If shanghaismiths tire is that close with 4 1/4", mine would probably most definitely rub. The way I measured it was put a straight edge over the rear of the rim and measured from where the inside face contacts the hub by the lug nut holes.

My tires are 235/60, if yours are 225/60 they are more narrow, they should fit. My wheels are delta wheels and the back spacing is 4.25
I just measured the clearance to the frame, it is 7/16" I think your 225/60's will be fine.

I think you might be off an 1/8" that's a really odd offset ... if your wheels are SSIIs like shanghaismith's do the center caps bolt-on or snap-in?

They are snap in. The rims are kinda weird. They have chrome where the little aluminum trim pieces would go on regular 14" rims, but they use a trim ring.

ahhh you probably have 15" SSIIIs then ... seen those on some Deltas with trim rings.
I do believe these were all 5 on 4.75 bolt pattern 4>25" offset 15"x7"

I have the same wheels on 83 H/O. I came up w/ the same back spacing. I used 235/60'5 in the back an the stock 215/65's in the front. they look and fit great.

If that's what you've got, the 235/60-15 is a good size for all 4 corners.
I am looking to buy new rims for my Cutlass. I have a few questions though. I know the rear is no problem with clearance. We plan to put 15x8 in the rear. Will 15x7 fit in the front with no clearance issues? I know it's tight in the front when turning to the extremes but would 7's fit in the front with a 3.75 backspace without an issue? Even if it requires smaller tires?

Here is what I plan on getting.

15 x7s are a perfect fit with a 3.75 backspace. That is what is on my car as we speak. Tires wise I have run 215 65 15 / 215 60 15 / 205 60 15 all were a perfect fit with zero issues.

I think those rims will look real nice on your ride.
Thanks man, and you're right. We just took the stock rim and tire off and put one of my buddy's 15x7's on there with 215 60 15 tires, and indeed with a 3.75 backspace they will fit no problem. We are going to order them this weekend from the local speed shop. Do you have any preferences on tires? We would like to get the solid white letters. Possibly the Eagle GT, or Futura? Or even BF Goodrich? I am not that familiar with tire brands.

I will post pictures when we get the wheels on the car

BF Goodrich Radial T/As all the way.

Some guys call them poser tires, you know more about show than go. But on the street and for a driver I find them great, and they are a beautiful full bodied looking tire to boot.

Had them on my 67 during New York winters, spring, summer, fall, its a great everyday tire IMHO. Car handled better with them, was good in rain, you name it.
